Member Spotlight: Tina Stanton

Tina Stanton is a graduate of American University (SPA ’05); she’s been an active member of the DCYRs for a year now, and while in school was a proud College Republican. Just this past fall, Tina joined the DCYRs in deployments to New Jersey and Virginia, to successfully help elect Republicans Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell, respectively, as the new Governors of their states.  After 8 years in Washington, DC, Tina’s finally taken the plunge and has accepted the position of Campaign Manager for Marc Morgan, a Republican running in DC’s Ward 1 for City Council this coming November.

Since school, Tina’s focused on energy policy as a research associate for Mitsubishi International Corporation. She’s very active in the DC arts community, running DC-music-based blog Atlimbo.com and performing in two community theater programs in the last year (in Eastern Market and Dupont Circle).

DCYRs Help Out DCGOP

The DCYRs strive to maintain an active presence in the community not only through our involvement in local DCGOP politics, but also through participation in both volunteer and charitable activities.  We believe it is important as young people and as Republicans to build roots in our communities and invest in the future well-being of all person’s including our youth, our elderly, our sick, and our homeless.

We lead a group volunteers to a local nursing home one Saturday a month to care for the residents by giving them manicures and hand massages with the “Pretty & Polished” program.  Many of the residents feel lonely, unappreciated, and uncared for and this simple giving act has rejuvenated their spirits and helped many of them feel cared for again.

We have also participated in the “I Give Republican Red” initiative which has saved hundreds of lives through collecting blood with the Red Cross at a donation center hosted locally.

On May 27th, 2010, the DCYRs held an event to raise money for Luke’s Wings, a charitable organization assisting wounded warriors.  Thanks Fletcher Gill and the Luke’s Wings team for letting us be part of such a great cause.

On June 5th, the DCYRs are sent our team “Republican Red is Just a Darker Shade of Pink,” to Race for the Cure!  We raised more than $700 for breast cancer research this year.

The DC Young Republicans aspire to give back in many ways such as supporting our troops, encouraging the continued improvement of education, caring for our less fortunate, and keeping our city clean and prosperous.   Have another idea about how we can give back? E-mail us at info@dcyrs.com today!
